The first public performance in 2004
Music history can sometimes be capricious: a 14-year-old writes a full-length opera that is presumably performed twice in the family circle. The score and libretto are put aside, the composer later becomes world-famous, and still no one pays any attention to the turbulent comedy of errors written in 1823 – even though the score contains some splendid music influenced by Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini and Weber. Which is not surprising, since the young Mendelssohn was very familiar with the epoch-making stage works of his day, yet still found a thoroughly personal tone. The rediscovery of this work by the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart in 2004 was "a hit even for experts" (Der Spiegel).

Akt 3: Schon naht der Abend – Was Tausend! Alles flieht vor mir – Ja dieser Mann voll Gnad’ und Huld – Sie kennen schon die süßen Triebe |
