Conceived in 1880/81 and revised in 1884, this early work by Busoni is the composer’s only piece for the traditional piano trio setting. The sequence of its movements and its history deserve mention: it originally began with a C minor Scherzo, which Busoni "demoted" to second place the next year by placing an Andante with Variations in G minor before it.
