Friedrich Schneider's second oratorio Das Weltgericht premiered in Leipzig in 1820 and was an immediate success. The work's incipient triumph, which gradually waned only with the publication of Mendelssohn's oratorio Paulus, helped the new type of choral oratorio achieve its breakthrough. To this day, the work is considered the high point of the German oratorio genre in the period between Haydn and Mendelssohn, with the storyline essentially carried by the choir. With the publication of this Urtext edition, taken over from the program of the Pfefferkorn Musikverlag, the Last Judgement is once again accessible in its entirety for the first time. The easily playable piano vocal score, prepared by the composer himself, is published alongside the purchasable full score.
