The search for unknown works by Johann Sebastian Bach has a long tradition that began in the 19th century with enthusiastic Bachians such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. If, in the present day, two hitherto unattributed organ works are ascribed to the young Bach, then this is a musicological and, above all, a musical sensation!

After more than 30 years of intensive research, Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Wollny was able to prove beyond a doubt that the young Bach was the composer of both pieces.

The Chaconnes BWV 1178 and 1179, published now for the first time, add two melodious compositions to Bach’s early organ repertoire, offering insights into the artistic development of the budding master.
