Kom nu hid, död! is actually part of the incidental music to “Trettondagsafton”, Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”, which Sibelius composed in 1909. It is one of the Fool’s songs in the play, from Act II, Scene IV.

The orchestral version of Kom nu hid, död! was produced in 1957, the year of Sibeliuss death. It was premièred on June 14, 1957, during the Sibelius Week, by baritone Kim Borg and the orchestra of the Finnish Broadcasting Company with Jussi Jalas conducting.
