“Preludes” was composed in early 2021. The pandemic and resulting lockdowns led to an unusual psychological experience for the composer, where the boundaries between the real and unreal became intertwined and reversed, making it difficult to discern truth from illusion. The piece resembles a series of sketches, as if the composer, gazing through a small window, instinctively captured the faces and forms of a frenzied carnival procession on paper. It also has elements of a dance theater.
